Materials Management Director

Job Description 
Summary/objective

Materials Management Director directs operations and planning to optimize the flow of raw materials, supplies, and equipment from initial procurement to the final disposition and fulfill material requirements for volume, cost, and scheduling business operations.

  • Create purchasing strategies and specific objectives for suppliers.
  • Manage daily purchasing activities and supervising staff.
  • Manage supplier relations and negotiate contracts, prices, timelines, etc.
  • Maintain the supplier database, purchase records, and related documentation.
  • Coordinate with inventory control to determine and manage inventory levels.
  • Oversee maintenance contracts and service orders.
  • Ensuring that all procured items meet the required quality standards and specifications.
  • Prepare cost estimates.
  • Integrate procurement systems to improve efficiency and workflows.
  • Train and develop staff to foster growth and advancement within the Materials department.
  • Provide support and data to assist in the creation of production plans.
  • Develop budgets, policies and procedures to support procurement.

Competencies
  • Expertise in lean concepts, scheduling, and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Ability to collect, compile and analyze data to make calculated decisions.
  • Capable of promoting a positive company attitude and culture improvement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP Software

 

Supervisory responsibilities – Yes
Required education and experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or 15 years of related experience.
  • Greater than 10 years leading supply chain/materials planning groups.
